Piano Cleaning

At Moore Piano, piano cleaning is more than just aesthetics.

If your keybed has dust-bunnies and hair underneath the keys, it means that dust and dirt could be floating up near your face every time you or your children play. This could be causing allergies and hay fever.

It can also affect the sound of your piano in various ways.

At a minimum, we recommend a thorough piano cleaning at least once every 5-10 years, depending on the cleanliness of the environment a piano is in.

Ron is the 6th piano tuner I’ve hired over the years and he’s the best I’ve seen by far. He’s very knowledgeable and does excellent work. He performed a pitch raise, tuning and cleaning on our piano and it has never sounded better.

Piano Cleaning Services

Our piano cleaning service includes cleaning the inside of the piano, cleaning the soundboard, and also cleaning the keybed and the outside of the piano.

On a vertical piano all keys are removed and vacuumed with a hepa filter and bagged vacuum, so there is no dust blowing out into your home. The keybed and insides are then vacuumed.

On a grand piano, the soundboard is dusted, the action is removed and dusted and vacuumed, and the keys and action are removed and then vacuumed.

Piano Cleaning Products

At Moore’s Piano Service we offer a wide variety of Cory brand piano cleaning products. Cory makes a product just for your piano, whether it’s lacquer or polyester, satin or gloss.

We also sell a soundboard steel for owners of any style grand piano. This allows you to get into all the tight places and under the strings for thorough dusting. This is a must-have if you want to dust the soundboard yourself.

Here are some of the most popular Cory products we recommend to just about any piano owner:

Super High-Gloss Piano Polish

This safe and easy-to-use polish is specially designed to protect and clean high-gloss polyurethane, polyester, and lacquer finishes in one step.  It will eliminate smudging, fingerprints, and dust-attracting static.  It also helps protect against fading and surface deterioration caused by UV light.

Satin Sheen for Pianos

For regular poly and lacquer finishes, we recommend satin sheen to remove smudges, fingerprints, and grime.  Use it often to protect the finish—simply spay on a cloth and then apply it to the finish by rubbing in the direction of the grain.

Piano Key Cleaner

Piano key cleaner preserves and brightens all types of keys, including plastic, ivory, and wood.  Simply spray the cleaner 6-8 inches from the keybed and wipe the keys clean.  It’s great for dissolving the wax build-ups on sharps.

Piano Cleaning FAQ

Here are answers to some of the questions we frequently get asked about our piano cleaning services:

How often should my piano be cleaned?

It depends on how clean the environment is where the piano is kept, but we recommend at a minimum that your piano is professionally cleaned once every 5-10 years.

How long does it take to clean a piano?

It takes about 2 hours for a thorough piano cleaning.  Most of the time, people have us tune a piano at the same time it is cleaned, which will take a little extra time.

Why do you recommend a piano cleaning if a mouse infestation was discovered in my home or building?

If you had a mouse infestation that required the use of traps or other methods to eliminate, it almost certainly means that the mouse was in your piano at some point.  They just seem to attract mice, and that means mouse droppings inside your piano.  This is certainly not healthy or good for your piano, so we recommend getting it cleaned just to be on the safe side.
